Kandinsky and getting ready for birthdays

During morning meeting, we discussed Kandinsky since some children didn't have the opportunity yesterday. We looked at some of the artwork of artist we previously studied and then looked carefully at Kandinsky's work. Margot noticed arches that looked like rainbows and Ava saw crescents. Then the two classes split for yoga.

While the Sunflowers had yoga, the Daisies, plus Luca, read Max and Art which they found uproariously funny. Then Isabel, Oliver and Lukas added their finishing touches to their Kandinsky inspired paintings. Nearby, Luca, with some help from Evan, created Ryan Q's birthday gift of an airplane made out of blocks.

When the classes switched, the children talked about what they like about Luca and started brainstorming what they should make him for his birthday. There was a heated debate about what Luca liked most, but in the end the children all agreed on an idea. Afterwards, Ava, Ashley, Jake, Eli, Margot and Sasha all worked on creating their own Kandinsky inspired paintings.Sasha was so excited about this project, she couldn't wait for the paint to dry! While she waited she sat with her friends, excited to see every step of the project.

Right before show and tell, a bee flew into the Daisies classroom, so we had show and tell and then lunch together in the Sunflowers room. We reassured the children that we don't have to be afraid of bees but that we should be careful because some people can be allergic to bee stings. We read a short book featuring a bee called Summer is Summer and then read two chapters of Frog and Toad.
