Happy Birthday Eli and Tate!

Not one but TWO birthdays today! Yes we celebrated both Tate and Eli's fourth birthdays and tried to cater to all their favorite activities throughout the morning.

During morning meeting we sang Around and around and named a different vehicle after our name. We thought Tate and Eli would like this idea! Then the birthday troll made an appearance and obviously she was extra excited today because their were two birthdays! Then we played the birthday troll game twice and directly after Eli was presented with his birthday card  and train made out of wood that the children made and Tate was presented with his birthday card along with a fire-hat that the children made for him. Both gifts were so thoughtful and really showed Tate and Eli's personality and where their interests lie.

After the gifts, Tate's mom, Sarah read Subway while Tate sat in his grandmother's lap. Then Eli's mom, Alison, read and Eli sat with his dad, Rob, and sister, Sadie. Next we had a dance party to the firetruck and the rockets ship songs.

Then we had free play set up with all things Tate and Eli like to do. The bus was out in the Seunflower's room. Children painted with trains on one table and on the other they made cards for Tate and Eli. In the Daisy's classroom, Ryan Casey and Ryan Q. and then Matthew worked on a "tall railroad track." They used every unit block, amoung others. Beside it, Evan and Sam built "a low railroad track" with a train that was about to derail. Later on Oliver built "the hightest mountain that nobody can climb." We know Eli likes to watercolor so one table we had water color pallettes out. Eli, Sadie, Isabel, Sasha, Margot, Mason and Lukas all painted while Ashley and Jake worked quietly cutting and taping in the writing center.

Later in the morning, Ryan Casey wrote a story about a monster and Eli wrote a story about a firetruck.

During the Daisies second meeting Sam helped add up the children who are in school and the children who were not in school (like we do everyday) except today we added in two different orders: seven plus one equals eight and one plus seven also equals eight. In the Sunflowers second meeting we talked about another strategy for making sure we didn't count the same children more than once when taking attendance. Margot lined up the attendance pictures and counted them in rows from left to right.

During lunch the Daisies played the sticker game. The Sunflowers read Chica Chica Boom Boom and then both classes sang Happy Birthday to Tate and Eli and enjoyed some yummy cupcakes.
