A surprising surprise reader!

At circle time this morning we talked about the two artists, Jackson Pollock and Henri Matisse and talked briefly about their style of art. Then we introduced the children to another artist, Wassily Kandinsky and we talked about his love and use of different shapes. We looked at some of his art and commented on all the different shapes we saw. The children saw, triangles, squares, circles and rectangles.

After our art lesson, we were totally surprised by our surprise reader, Ryan Casey who read The Story of the Wright Brothers. All the children were quite surprised and Ava said, "when can I be surprise reader?" Ryan was so excited to read to his friends as he burst in the room with a big smile. He read loud enough for his friends to hear him and then he turned the book so they could all see the book. When he was finished, the children asked questions and commented on the book.

We had some time before dance so we voted on what to do next. The consensus was to play the Musical Bell Game! We played a few rounds and then had dance with Elizabeth.

During work time, Ashely, Isabel, Oliver, Eli, Ava and Ryan worked on painted rectangles on their Kandinsky inspired paintings. Tomorrow we will add circles. On the rug Sam, Evan, Oliver and Alex added to Ryan and Sam's structure of a train station they worked on earlier while Lukas, while Jake, Evan  and Lukas read on the rug with Ms. Rebecca.

During lunch, the Daisies ate the coconut Lukas brought in for Show and Tell and read There's a Nightmare in My Attic. The Sunflowers started reading a "big kid book" Frog and Toad Storybook Treasury (we read the first chapter entitled Spring).
