The children came in today asking where Rebecca was. I told them she was home doing some work and about a minute later, they asked, "Where's Rebecca?" Haha the children really missed her today.
During morning meeting we sang If your happy and you know it and Ava and Margot helped roll the feelings cube. We talked about Mother's Day and our plan for the day and then Lakshmi came in for yoga.
At this point half the children had yoga while the other half listened to Sandra's book, My Brave Years of Firsts by Jamie Lee Curtis. Then we planted beans for a Mother's Day gift! Make sure you water them and put them in the sun.
Then the children switched and the other half of the children had a chance to make their Mother's Day gifts. When the doors opened, children made Mother's Day cards and told us what they like to do with their moms. Bunky came and worked with Evan, Alex, Eli, Lukas and Sam and created a large piece we will use for the art show. Ava and Ashley spent a lot of time tracing numbers with the magnet wand and Sam made a special Mother's Day card in the writing center for his mom. Eli also made numerous cards for his mom.
In the Sunflower's class, Mason, Sasha and Tate made pizza with play dough and at one point, Oliver, Jake, Sam and Ava were quietly all reading books on the rug.
In the block area Ryan built a "mean pirate boat." He wanted flags on his boat so Sandra helped create flags with Ryan using material, tape and Popsicle sticks. Next to Ryan, Jake and Ashley built something that "shoots bad guys" while Margot made an "ice castle".
During lunch the Daisies talked about Jackson Pollock and read Olivia and looked for the Jackson Pollock painting in the book. Then we looked at the children's splatter painting from the other day. During lunch the Sunflower's read/sang The Wheels on the Bus.
