Happy Birthday Ava!

We had birthday celebrations all morning for Ava! As the children came in this morning they made Ava birthday cake with play dough and candles and helped decorate more of her large card. In the Daisies room, Ryan Q build a runway and an airport in the block area for his plane and at the table, Rachel (from the studio downtown) came to work on some special art projects for the art show with us.

During morning meeting we sang birthday songs and the birthday troll of course made an appearance and we played the birthday troll game. We had French with Deborah (our second to last class of the year) and the other children had a discussion about Ryan Q and his upcoming birthday. Immediately after Alex and Sam built a car and Luca built an airplane for animals. Margot assisted and then went on to build her own version of the Empire State Building. On the tables Ashley, Ava, and Eli painted with watery acrylic on wet watercolor paper.

After both classes had French, Ava's parent came in to read one of Ava's favorite Frozen books. We then danced to the song Let it Go with scarves. The Sweet Peas came in to sing Ava a song they have been practicing and then Happy Birthday. Afterwards, we had a short freeplay where children made individual cards for Ava, bracelets with cardboard and yarn and Ryan Casey, Alex and Sasha spearheaded the creation of a marble shoot made from hollow blocks- it was very impressive!

Everyone enjoyed the mac and cheese, PB&J, cantaloupe, grapes and mini-cupcakes Ava's parents, Erin and Chris, brought in for lunch while Rebecca read (part of) The Lorax which Ava donated to the school. Many thanks to Chris and Erin for coming in to celebrate with us and for supplying the yummy lunch and tasty treat gift bags!
