In the style of Jackson Pollock!

Today was a whirlwind day! In the beginning of the morning, Margot, Oliver, Ryan Casey, Isabel and Ava made corn syrup and watercolor paintings on reflective CDs in the Daisies room. In the Sunflowers room, Isabel helped put together a mobile out of cardboard pieces the children have previously painted while Rebecca worked on Number Books with Luca, Ryan Q. and Sasha.

At morning meeting, we reminded the children about Purple Cake Day and our art auction. Then we started our study of various artists and styles of painting by learning a little bit about Jackson Pollack and how he decided to paint. Then the Daisies and Sunflowers split up for French.

While the Daisies had French with Deb, Margot, and Eli made self-portraits on canvas with water color and permanent marker and Mason created his number book.

While the Sunflowers had French, Evan, Alex, Ryan Casey and Sam created balls out of play dough and rolled them back and forth across the table. At first the boys were saying "go away" to the balls, but them Sam suggested kinder words: "roll over there, ball!" Then Oliver and Ryan Casey worked on self-portraits on canvas with watercolor.

When the two classes reunited, groups of children (4 at a time) went outside to do some splatter painting. Jake wanted a sampling of all the colors on his canvas. The paintings reminded many of the Sunflowers of animals- Eli though his looked like bunnies and Mason said his was a gorilla.

Inside the school, Tate and Margot, and Matthew made number books while Alex, Ryan, Sam and Lukas tried to trap poisonous spider toys in the birdhouse they made in the block area. Ashley and Ava wanted to create a doctor's office out of magnatiles that ended up morphing into a castle.

During lunch, the Sunflowers changed jobs and listened to part of Tiki Tiki Tempo and took some deep breaths after a very busy day and the Daisies read Little Blue and Little Yellow.
