Happy new year and welcome back to school after such a long break! We had such a quiet day today as many children are still away on vacation and so we were able to ease back into the schedule. Right away Eli noticed how many children were missing and we counted with out fingers the amount of children that that were here today. During morning meeting we also sang I Like to Eat Apples and Bananas and Five Green and Speckled Frogs. Then we talked about our highs and lows of our vacation. Many children said they were scared of the dark, including Ava and Sam and Isabel said she had fun playing at the game room in the hotel. After morning meeting we read Brave Irene and then went on a bear hunt.
During work time, Ms. Rebecca worked with Jake on his holiday tradition and Eli, Isabel and Ava did their January self-portraits.
On the rug, Sam and Eli started to build a house but then they followed Ms. Erica's pattern and build a vertical structure together using unit blocks and doubles. Meanwhile Izzie and Ava washed the babies and then decided they needed to go to the doctor. Sam helped out and took on the role of the doctor and gave the babies shots and band aids.
On the tables, Jake and Eli worked on making patterns with the geometric shapes and then Jake worked with the maga-tiles. At one point the Sweet Peas opened their door but the children did not seem interested in visiting their room and neither did the Sweet Peas children who also remained in their classroom.
During lunch we played "What's In My Box?" The hint was that, "It's edible."
