The Kissing Hand

In our morning circle today we read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. We discussed how we felt about coming to school (excited/nervous/sad) and came up with strategies for what to do when we missed our mommies and daddies. Tate's suggestion was visiting our family board and looking at our family picture.

During our project work time, everyone worked on tracing their own hand (either independently or with the help of a teacher), just like you did at our parent orientation night, so that we can compile our own Kissing Hand book. Sasha in particular relished in seeing the tracings of her hand and made multiple pages where she traced her own hand and signed her name.

Elsewhere in the classroom, Isabel, Ava, Ashley, Sasha and Jake where involved in creating a house in the reading area and cooking and caring for a baby in the kitchen area. Also in the Sunflowers room, Sam suggested we bring out the instruments again, involving the whole class with Evan singing Twinkle, Twinkle and Eli exclaiming "It's a concert and I'm proud of it!"

In the Daisies classroom, Ryan Casey started to build a subway with the unit blocks and Ryan Quintano came to help and then Matthew added to it. On the tables, Mason, Sam, Isabel, Evan, and Matthew worked with playdough and made pizza, pancakes, robots and dinosaurs.
