Purple Cake Day!

Happy Purple Cake Day! When the children came in to school today they helped Erica make purple play dough. The children also had the opportunity to make their own purple crowns to wear throughout the day and eat rice cakes with purple grape jam.

After singing Hello How Are You to say good morning, Oliver's mom, Marta helped explain what Purple Cake Day is. We talked about how there are children who don't have the chance to go to school and we can raise money to help send them to school. Then Marta kicked off Literacy Week and our celebration of the author Kevin Henkes by reading Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.

While the Sunflowers had music with Evan and sang songs about the color purple like Flying Purple People Eater, the Daisies made their own purple purses modeled after the purse Oliver made last week. Then the two classes switched.

During freeplay, Sasha, Jake, Ashley, Luca and Isabel made purple collages at one table while many children made personal purple cakes out of shaving cream, glue, purple paint, glitter and beads for ornamentation. Sasha, Margot, Evan and Ava used some of the purple play dough we made earlier this morning.


At lunch, the Sunflowers changed jobs and read Harold and the Purple Crayon and the Daisies read Purplicious and changed jobs.
