Auguri Oliver!

Today was Oliver's 5th birthday! When the children came in, they made a large card for Oliver from the whole class and some children made individual cards for him as well. They also worked on creating a birthday banner for him. Luca, Sasha and Margot also chatted up a storm collaborating at the easel.

When Oliver came in, we sang happy birthday to him and so did the birthday troll! We played 'Round and 'round the birthday troll goes and then gave him his cards and his birthday present. Ms. Erica read the birthday story the children wrote about Spaghetti Superhero Oliver who defeats the spaghetti monster. Then we had a dance party to some of Oliver's favorite songs. Afterwards, we were lucky to have Oliver's mom, Marta, read us Oliver's favorite book, Strega Nona, and donate a copy to the school.

At the art table, Ryan Casey, Evan, Oliver, Jake, Margot, Isabel, Lukas and Eli made wooden structures. Margot made, "a garden for my Mom" and Evan made, "a city." Ava, Eli, Mason, Ryan Q. and Ryan Casey also experimented with building using Lincoln logs on the rug. Ava made a "gymnastic's gym" and Eli built a house with a chimney.

In the block area, Luca instructed Jake and Lukas on how to build an airplane out of the hollow blocks. Quickly many children joined them and turned the structure into a fire fighting plane. Nearby, Margot and Ryan Q. transformed a big box into a coo-coo clock by opening the flaps and singing coo-coo! Soon all the children wanted a turn.

There were many dramatic play narratives in the classroom today. Margot and Matthew were super heroes who Margot said, "have real super powers! They're really real!" In the doctor's office, Sam, Tate and Sasha were doctors and Ryan Casey was the nurse. Ryan Casey wanted to give Rebecca "100 shots" and Tate meticulously applied band-aids trying to keep up, but Rebecca fled and warned the doctors about malpractice. In the kitchen area, Eli, Ava and Ashley played family and dentist with Sam as the Dad.

During lunch, we sang Happy Birthday to Oliver and ate pizza, bread sticks, carrots, guacamole, salami and had a tiny piece of birthday cake.

The Sunflowers switched jobs and enjoyed the yummy pizza and fruit tart Oliver brought in to celebrate.
