Wemberley Worried and talking about feelings

We sang good morning and then rolled the feelings cube and talked about times when we have felt happy, scared or surprised. Afterwards, Ashley's mom, Su Mei came in to read the Kevin Henkes book, Wemberley Worried, for literacy week. The children loved it and shared times when they have felt worried.

While the Daisies had French, the Sunflowers made masks of different emotions such as happy, sad and silly. Meanwhile, Eli, Ava, Ashley and Margot created a doctor's office in the Daisies' room. Luca, Tate and Ryan Q. added on to yesterday's structure by pretending the blocks were bricks and stacking them to make the house taller and added a ramp to get inside.

Then while the Sunflowers had French, the Daisies also worked on making masks. Lukas and Matthew made angry faces, Isabel made a sad face with tears and Evan and Ryan made scary ghost faces. On the small red table, Evan, Alex and Sam made superhero cakes with the playdough and Isabel added a lot of glitter to the large collaborative painting. She said, "I looove glitter because it makes everything sparkly and beautiful!" 

Then Oliver noticed Lightning was out of her cage and decided to make a sign that said, "Fly Down." Apparently she can read because she ended up flying down and we put her in her block house for the remainder of the morning where she rested on a very high perch.

During freeplay in the Sunflower's room, dramatic play was abuzz. Ashley was a hair dresser and styled Mason, Jake and Ava's hair. Luca informed Rebecca, "Hey, you sick now!" before leading her to the doctor's office. While Tate and Luca checked her blood pressure, Sasha held her hand and Margot took her temperature and checked her throat. Eli, Jake and Ryan Q. all made books about times that they felt worried.

At lunch, the Sunflowers read Moon Rabbit, a story about a long distance friendship and then talked about their family and friends who live far away. The Daisies wrote down all words starting with the letter W and then talked about what an alliteration. Then I made up alliterations with each child's name, ie. Alexander ate apples all afternoon.
