During circle time we conducted an experiment. We first talked about what an experiment is and then placed ice in two containers. We told the children that we were going to put cold water in one container and hot water in the other container. Then we made predictions as to which container of ice would melt faster. We poured the water on and watched the reaction of the hot water and the cold water. Alexander said, "Look, that one is melting faster" as he pointed to the container with the hot water. Then we discussed our evidence before making the conclusion that "ice melts faster in hot water."
We all had dance with Elizabeth and the children had an opportunity to dance in a circle to different types of music. Everyone had their own unique style!
During work time, Evan, Lukas, Isabel, Eli, Alex and Ashley made collages using cut up pieces of white paper on black paper. Lukas made a "monster collage" and Evan said he "traced the number zero" with the white pieces of paper.
On another table, Jake, Evan, Isabel, Ava and then later Oliver and Lukas watched the reaction of salt crystals on ice as they used eye droppers with water to cover the salt and ice.
In the writing center Oliver made a horn with brown paper and tape and Ava drew a picture of a person and attached paper clips as ice skates.
On the rug, Ryan, Sam and Alex were building an extra special birdhouse. As Sam said, "It's Christmas at Lightning's birdhouse!" Alexander made a Christmas tree and Sam made Santa Claus out of blocks so he could bring Lightning presents.
At the end of the morning, the writing center was turned into a doctor's office. Ashley and Isabel were Ava's primary care doctors. Sam administered shots and Eli read her x-rays until Alex finally discovered, "This is what's making her sick- a broken arm." Ryan was in charge of recruiting and managing the ever growing list of patients by writing their names down in an appointment book.
