Getting ready for Lunar New Year and celebrating Ms. Rebecca's Birthday!

So many celebrations today! We started off the day by singing Happy Birthday to Ms. Rebecca. The birthday troll came out and we gave Ms. Rebecca a card, flowers and a piece of cake! The Sweet Peas even came in to sing.

After the birthday celebration, we watched a video of a dragon and talked about  Lunar New Year. We read a book about Lunar New Year and then Su Mei and Ju Nie came and made lanterns with construction paper  and scissors with children. Then we painted a box red and decorated it with different colored tissue paper and glitter. This box will be our dragon for tomorrow's parade.

Since it's year of the horse, we also decorated horse puppets with red marker, feathers, pom poms, glitter and other red recyclables.

Meanwhile in other areas of the classroom, Lukas and Ryan worked on puzzles on the floor and with magna-tiles, Ava and Eli built a Lunar Near Year dragon to scare away bad spirits and Evan and Ryan made a jet-way.

We cleaned up early and both Su Mei and Ju Nie read us another Lunar New Year book, Ashley shared a special snack with us and Jake shared his huge dragon head that all the children of course wanted to try out!

During lunch the Daisies played "What's In My Box?" and the Sunflowers read In the Night Kitchen and Mouse at Night.
