Bears, doctors and birdhouses

At morning meeting today we sang 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree, rolled the feelings cube and talked about the times we feel, angry, happy and surprised. Then we acted out one of the Sunflowers' favorite books, The Little Mouse, The Big Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry. Isabel was the mouse, Ashley the bear and Ryan was the strawberry. Ava and Sam helped create the set and Isabel suggested we change the ending of the story in our play so the bear would gobble up the strawberry.

During freeplay, many children used watercolor paint on coffee filters to make a surprise for the parents for curriculum night tomorrow. Nearby, Evan, Ryan, Lukas and Jake freed animals frozen in ice at the sensory table. In the block area, Alex, Ryan and Sam worked on an elaborate birdhouse which they shared for show and tell.

The writing center served two purposes today. Alex, Jake and Oliver made cut paper creations including wheels, animals and a rock shooter while Ashley wrote the names of her friends. Later in the morning, it was transformed into a doctor's office by Dr. Ava, Nurse Ashley and their consultant, Jake. They wrote charts, administered shots and made their own band aids out of sticky notes and tape.

During lunch the Daisies read The Little Mouse, The Big Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry. In the Sunflowers room, Ava did attendance addition and wrote the numbers herself, Rebecca read from 2 books of poems and then Ashley read a book to the class (see today's video).
