A cake for Margot

During morning meeting we talked first about baking a cake for Margot and how we should decorate it. Ryan Casey thought we should write her name with icing on the top, Ashley wants it to have "lots of sprinkles" and Lukas was pretty sure it should have "a big big candle." Then we talked a it about making decorations for the school in celebration for Margot tomorrow. Eli decided that the decoration should be shiny and Ryan and Ava thought we should make a big sign on the door that says, Margot!

Directly after morning meeting we were surprised by Sam's Mom who read Giraffe's Can't Dance! which is always a crowd pleaser. While we waited for Elizabeth, we acted out The Mouse, The Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry. Today Ryan played the bear, Lukas was the strawberry, Alex was the mouse and Eli helped narrate.

After dance with Elizabeth the children were eager to get to work. Oliver, Jake, Eli, Ashley and Ava helped Ms. Rebecca bake a cake for Margot while Alex, Ryan C. and Sam got right to work making a "Halloween birdhouse" with pumpkin signs. Ryan build a slide for her and Sam built stairs. Lukas spent some time making a decoration for Margot and then worked at the rug and created three enclosed structures for different animals using unit blocks. Evan was busy in the writing center drawing train tracks and trying to write Long Island Rail Road.

At some point during the morning after the cake was finished, Ms. Rebecca, Oliver, Eli, Jake and Sam created a huge sign with Margot's name on it. Later on Alex and Lukas came to help decorate it with dot dots.

During lunch the children requested more Shel Silverstin poems. The Sunflowers were disappointed we only had time to read Noisy Nora twice.
