Ice, storms and self-portraits

Wow what a busy morning! We started today off with Jake's uncle, Andrew, as surprise reader who read us Gruffalo which is always a favorite! Directly following surprise reader we had yoga with Lakshsmi and a French make-up class with Deborah.

In between all of this the Daisies also had an interesting discussion about storms. I started off asking the children "What are different kinds of storms that you have heard of (or seen)?" At first they mentioned, hail and snow storms and well as rain and tornadoes. Then the children got creative and started talking about number storms and food storms!

Later in the morning Sasha, Tate, Luca, Margot, Ryan and Mason did their February self-portraits with Ms. Rebecca. Afterwards, Luca, Ryan and Sasha worked at another table adding salt and watercolor to a block of ice. In dramatic play, Ava, Ashley, Eli and Jake were a family and when they had to take Ava to the doctor, Ashley hailed a cab for everyone.

At one point Ashley, Oliver, Mason, Margot, Evan and Isabel worked on writing two and three letter sight words on the dry erase board.

In the later part of the morning, Alex, Ryan Q, Ryan C, Sam, Luca and Lukas built a birdhouse with the hollow blocks which later turned into a boat.

At the easel Evan spent awhile working on painting "a hail storm" with green and white paint while Ryan Casey painted a "mango storm" with red paint.

During lunch the Daisies read How Do Dinosaurs Go To School and Ghosts in the Cellar. The Sunflowers took a poll of what was for lunch and discussed the most common and least common foods they had.
