We started off the morning by singing Halloween and pumpkin songs, which the children loved! Then Erica went in the Daisy's classroom with one of the birdhouse committees consisting of Alex, Izzie and Sam. We talked about some things Lighting would like in her house, what she would need and what she would do there. Then we began working right away in the block area. Isabel said that we should make a bowl for her out of clay and "put her dinner in it" (and then she did later on) and Alex and Sam made her a garbage can and things for her to "climb on."
Meanwhile, in the Sunflowers room, we reflected on some comments we heard last week about Lightning's friends. We then had a discussion about who is friends with Lightning/who would she like to play with? The children thought witches, pigeons, sparrows and Buzz Lightyear would be likely candidates. We mentioned that we will be dressing up as Lightning's friends for Halloween
During work time, Jake, Izzie, Ashley, Ava and Eli painted their pinch pots. Oliver created Lightning out of paper and Evan worked with scissors and paper in the writing center and created a collage.
We noticed that many children we playing "baby" and "family" in the reading center so during reflective meeting we talked about moving the dramatic play to where the books are and moving the books down by the rug. Ava, Eli and Jake even helped Rebecca start taking some of our kitchen cabinets up after lunch.
