Today was another tour day, so everyone worked in the Sunflowers room. During morning meeting, we talked about rug rules (sitting criss-cross, hands on our own body and raising a silent hand to indicate you want to speak), our reopened reading center and hosting our first surprise reader this Friday!
During our project work time, Sasha, Ava, Isabel, Jake and Ashley worked with clay and slip on canvas. Sam, Luca, Eli and Ryan Casey made microphones out of Zoob manipulatives and held an impromptu rock concert. Tate, Matthew and Alexander used the same manipulatives to make rockets and spaceships that were blasting off.
Eli, Tate, Alex, Ryan Q. and Isabel tried to feed Lightning plastic food in the kitchen area. Despite their persistence, Lightning didn't take the bait. Later in the morning we noticed some children giving Lightning magnet tiles to eat. I asked the children what they thought about giving her real food to eat at which point we looked in the snack bin and took Ryan Casey's pita chips. Ryan Casey, Lukas and Ryan Q then fed Lightning pita chips and she ate them! They laughed every time she took a bite! Ryan Casey said, "she loves it!"
During lunch the Sunflowers played the prediction game while the Daisies talked about the window boxes and starting jobs next week.
Finally, in our reflective meeting we talked about some of the things we noticed about Lightning today: she flew out of her cage, she did not eat the plastic food and she did eat the crackers. Tomorrow we will see if we can find (or make) other food that Lightning will want to eat.
