Clay and water

We were all so excited to have Oliver back today! The children warmly welcomed him back to school
and he acclimated very quickly to the environment

For morning meeting we commented on how many children have been discussing, drawing and building birdhouses out of blocks. We asked the children what materials they thought we should use to make a real birdhouse for Lightning. Ryan Q. said "You can't have a birdhouse without wood." The children also suggested we use nails, hammers and really strong string to hang the birdhouse.

During work time, the children learned what happens when you add water to clay. We did this first by wetting sponges and then squeezing the water on to the clay ball. Oliver noticed that the water makes the clay, "slippery." In the Sunflowers room, Jake, Luca, Margot, Mason, Izzie, Oliver and Alex painted with acorns by rolling them back and forth in a container.

During lunch, both the Daisies and the Sunflowers took a "What was for lunch?" poll and talked about most common and least common lunch items.
