Meeting Nancy in Jackson Square Park and checking out our new ambulence

First and foremost, thanks to all the parents who were able to attend our parent night last night. The children were amazed by all the hard work you put into the potions, tools and ambulance for our doctor’s office and classroom. We shared everything you made last night during morning meeting and many children were inspired; "I want to make one of those" said Oliver pointing to a grabber. We also established rules for the ambulance and took it for a test drive.

While the Daisies had French, the Sunflowers worked on making wooden sculptures with Erica. Many children tried out the ambulance and Mason, Ryan Q., Sasha, Luca and Tate made self-portraits with Rebecca.

While the Sunflowers had French, the Daisies went to Jackson Square Park to meet with Nancy, the gardener there. She showed us some of the flowers that are starting to grow in the park and pointed out the buds on the trees. As the Daisies returned to BMS, the Sunflowers set out to the park singing songs about the rain and took a tour with Nancy as well.

The Daisies had a brief freeplay where Ryan Casey and Evan made structures with the small wooden blocks and wood glue. They said they made tug boats. On the rug, Sam, Matthew and Lukas started building a bird house and then Ryan and Evan came to help. It was so large and impressive that we decided to leave it up! In the writing center, Oliver and Isabel worked on making cards. Isabel made a card for her Mom.

When the Sunflowers class returned to BMS, they discussed what gifts we could give to the park and ways we could make the park more beautiful. Ava suggested we could make beautiful butterflies that hang in the trees. Ryan Q. wanted to hang them along the railings and Mason thought we could draw them with chalk. The Daisies thought ...

During lunch, the Sunflowers read Ms. Nelson is Missing and had a heated debate about whether or not Ms. Nelson disguised herself as a witch and if so, why good guys would pretend to be bad guys. The Daisies discussed what gift we should make for the park and then we read Hansel and Gretel.
