Let's learn about Passover!

This morning we were lucky to be joined by both Eli's mom, Alison, and Mason's mom, Shari, who taught us about Passover, read us two books and talked us through the different parts of the seder plate. Then, while one group of children had music, the other group searched the Daisies room for the afikomen (i.e. a piece of matzoh that is traditionally hidden during a Passover seder).

While the children were taste-testing the matzoh, one group had a discussion about why they love Tate, to prepare for his birthday. Margot said she loves Tate because "he's nice. He makes me feel better when I'm crying." Eli thought that since Tate loves firefighters so much we could make him a firefighter costume for his birthday.

During work time when both classes came together, Ashley and Jake worked nicely building a castle while Sasha built "something for my mom" and Luca and Matthew built a plane. All these structures were large and in close proximity but somehow all the children respected each other's space and worked nicely together.

In the writing center, Ms. Erica worked with Ryan and Matthew on their April self-portraits and on the rug close by, Evan, Tate and Ryan Casey created an extensive railroad system. Isabel, Margot and Mason snuggled up and listened to Margot read The Very Hungry Caterpillar aloud.

On the larger tables, Lukas worked on painting Eli's birthday gift while Ryan Q and Eli painted their wooden structures. On the other large table Isabel, Alex, Margot, Ashley and Jake explored the ublick with boats. Nearby, Luca, Oliver and Ryan Casey worked for a long time with the magna-tiles creating planes and sandwiches.

During lunch the Daisies tried some Chinese noodles and egg from Brandon in the Sweet Peas and then changed jobs. The Sunflowers changed jobs and talked about making a sign to tell friends when silly sounds are closed.
