Thinking about doctors and making ornaments

We started off morning meeting with a conversation about building a doctor's office. Ava suggested we build a doctor's office out of construction paper and that we would need an otoscope. Alexander thought we would need a measuring tape and a flashlight and Sam said we would need shots and band-aids. Ryan was a bit skeptical about the whole idea and thought it would take too long and wouldn't look like his doctor's office.

After our discussion we read, Wind per Evan's request. Many of the children were concerned about a tornado in NYC. We reassured them that tornadoes only happen in very far away places. During work time, we worked with the bells and each child was in charge of a bell as we played, Row Row Row Your Boat, Old MacDonald and London Bridge.

Sam, Alex, Izzie, Ashley and Ava made ornaments with glitter and dot-dots. Later on, Ryan, Jake and Izzie made ornaments with pipe cleaners and beads.

On the rug, Alex and Sam worked on another birdhouse for Lightning. Lukas came to help and added animals. In the writing center, Evan sounded out and wrote the words, POLICE STATION and taped it to a Popsicle stick to make a sign. He said he did this because his job this week as problem solver is similar to a police officer's job. Ashley also made a sign with her name on it. Isabel, Alex, Evan, Eli, Ashley and Ryan did their December self-portraits. Eli and Jake read No David! three times and then David Goes to School twice with Rebecca. They were soon joined by nearly every child in the class.

We cleaned up a bit early for our surprise reader, Ava's dad, Chris. Ava was overjoyed to see him. He read us Ladybug Girl and then stayed to hear show and tell and read the Sunflowers two more books during lunch.

During reflective meeting, the Daisies talked about the pot-luck last night and during lunch we read Good Thing You're Not an Octopus per Lukas's request. The Sunflowers talked about some of the conflicts with regards to sharing that happened this morning and the strategies we used to handle them.
