While the Sunflowers had music with Evan, Sandra read Llama Llama Holiday Drama. Then we graphed how long we were able to spin dreidels for. Then the two classes switched activities.
For freeplay, the children made ornaments and cards for Ramonita in the Daisies room. Margot looked at the pictures of Ramonita for a long time as she sat making the ornaments. Tate made a card and said, "I made this for her because I still love her. That's why I made this." Alexander's card read, "Thank you Ramonita for everything."
It was gingerbread houses galore in the Sunflowers room! Sasha's mom, Tara, was at one table and Jake's mom, Ju Nie, at the other and everyone in the class couldn't wait to have a turn frosting and decorating the houses. Tate, Matthew, Mason and Evan were firefighters putting out the fires in both rooms. Ryan C., Luca, Margot, Lukas, Mason and Jake built for the first time with one of our new building matterials- Straws and Connectors. Even though it was a new and challenging fine motor task, the children stuck with it and ended up building large animals, water shooters and a gigantic crayon.
Eli and Ava also conducted an experiment in the science center today. Ava asked Rebecca to fill up a container with water and then she and Eli dropped all of the natural materials in the science center in to see if they "went to the bottom" or "stayed on top." They observed that acorns float and rocks sink. During our reflective meeting, they explained what they were working on with the group. Ryan Q. hypothesized that big things (like the large acorns) float and small things (like the pebbles) sink. However, Ava brought to our attention, "But this big rock is at the bottom!"
