When we sat down this morning some children noticed that Ms. Rebecca's face card was not on the attendance board so I explained that she is still in Seattle visiting her sister BUT that she will be back tomorrow! Then we talked a little bit about what Thanksgiving is and what it means. We talked about spending time with loved ones and eating a lot of food. Then we made a list of all the things that we might be eating on Thanksgiving. We sang If You're Happy and You Know It and talked about things that make us happy. Alex said "hot dogs" make him happy, Jake said, "my Mom and Dad and food" and Ashley said, "my Mom and Dad."
After morning meeting we turned the pages of the book The Mitten and made a list of all the characters we will need for our play. Then I read the book as the children acted it out! We used the table and a blanket as our mitten.
During work time, Isabel, Alex, Oliver, Ashley, Ava, Sam and Lukas helped make zucchini bread. When we were finished, Isabel and Oliver conducted an experiment and mixed flour, water and oil together on the table. Yes, it was a mess!
Evan, Ryan Q. and Luca worked in the sand table today. They pretended they were excavators scooping sand. Mason, Margot and Lukas played in the dollhouse and Tate, Matthew, Ava and Ashley (then Mason) played sick baby in the dramatic play area.
In the block area, Sam and Alex built a house for Lightning and then they drew many pictures for her.
In the Sunflowers room, Ashley, Luca, Isabel and Mason decorated mittens with dot-dots and markers and Lukas and Luca built "a train for boys" using the magnatiles.
