Let's Talk About Jobs

Today the Sunflowers and the Daisies had separate morning meetings for the first time. The Daisies class talked about jobs and taking on responsibility. We talked about the jobs on the job chart and other things that need to get done in the classroom. A lot of the suggestions had to do with taking care of Lightning. We also talked about the weather and the need for weather cards. We read What Will the Weather Be as well as Windy (suggested by Evan). After our meeting Isabel, Even, Alex, Lukas and Sam made weather cards. Evan was really interested in making a tornado and Alex made a snow monster on his card. Evan, Lukas and Oliver also explored clay with branches and acorns. Lukas made a "ladybug for my sister."

Meanwhile, The Sunflowers' class talked about jobs today too. The children suggested a few job titles to Rebecca including: schedule helper, lunch helper, timer (to tell us when clean up is) and sweeper. The "sweeper" is a much needed job, someone who would be in charge of recycling all the paper scraps created when children cut with scissors. 

After both classes had  music with Evan, we opened the doors and both classes played together. During this time, we worked on Nov. self-portraits. Alex and Sam built a massive bird house for Lightning with slides in the block area. Lukas came to help and added toys for her which were the animals. Oliver painted on the easel and Evan connected 5 index cards together to make a "tornado kite." 

Dramatic play was a popular choice in the Sunflowers' class today. Mason took care of the babies, making sure they went to the doctor for their many boo-boos on the blue rug. Ashley, Ava, Tate and Jake transformed the writing center into another doctor's office and gave Ava shots. Margot performed a musical with tigers and panthers. Luca, Ryan and Eli collaborated in the light area to make tall rocket ships. During our reflective meeting, Rebecca noticed that many of the children were playing doctor today. In response, Ava suggested we build our own doctors office in the Sunflowers classroom.
