Happy 5th Birthday Sam!

Happy, happy birthday Sam! Everyone at school was so excited to celebrate his big day. This morning, we said hello to everyone in Spanish as per Sam's request and then sang Happy Birthday to him in both English and Spanish. Both of Sam's parents joined us for two rounds of the birthday troll game and helped Sam open his birthday present, an accordion-style book filled with trains the children painted themselves. Ava, Isabel and Margot serenaded Sam, singing Let it go in front of the entire class. Both classes then relocated to the Daisies room to hear Sam's dad read us I Know a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello.

During freeplay in the Daisies room, on the rug, Sam worked with Eli, Evan, Luca and Ryan Q. to build a rail/road system. Eli's train was heading out to the country side and Sam's train went all the way to Brazil! Ashley, Ava, Ryan Q. and Oliver all treated Sam's mom in the makeshift doctors office in the writing center. They made her a cast and gave her 100 shots- she was a very brave patient.

In the Sunflowers room in the doctor's office, Isabel treated Ryan Casey (who was kitten) for a fever with carrots. Then she taught him new tricks. In the school bus, Matthew and Tate drove to Brooklyn and later Isabel drove Ms. Erica to the Hamptons. Nearby, Jake made an elaborate Lego structure with cars that drove through and a wing for people to rest in.

Lukas, Evan, Sasha and Mason worked in the sandbox for a while playing with zoo animals. Sasha made them chicken soup for sustenance. Then Evan, Margot, Luca and Isabel made a SAMUEL collage by glueing the letters in his name.

On the table in the Sunflolwers, Alex, Lukas, Izzie, Luca and Margot decorated guitars with markers and dot dots. Alex said, "I'm making a rock and roll guitar."

We practiced our graduation songs together before dividing for show and tell and lunch. Both classes played the sticker game and then came into the Daisies room to sing Happy Birthday to Sam and enjoy some yummy cupcakes.

Happy Birthday Sam and thanks so much to Sam's parents for coming in to read to us, spend the morning and share their cupcakes.
